# The fascination of the Danube sinkhole – unique worldwide On this tour, the culinary highlight comes from the broth... A grand tour around the globally unique phenomenon of the Danube sinkhole. Along the above-ground Danube on the Danube Cycle Path to the Danube Gorge near Fridingen and from there via Neuhausen ob Eck to the source of the Aach in Hegau and back to the large sinkholes near Immendingen. Between Immendingen and Fridingen in the Danube Mountains, the Young Danube sinks back into the ground shortly after its "start" in Donaueschingen. On many days of the year, it even disappears completely. Part of the Danube's water continues to flow eastward on the surface into the Black Sea, while the other part "dives" underground and flows southward, resurfacing at the "source of the Aach" and flowing from there into Lake Constance and, together with the waters of the Rhine, westward and northward into the North Sea.
