Welcome to

With its 400 seats and no roof, the Steintäle open-air theater is one of the few wildly romantic natural stages in Baden-Württemberg. Every year, an adult play and a children's play entertain audiences at the open-air theater. The Steintäle open-air theater has a very special atmosphere. Nestled in a very narrow dry valley of the Danube Valley, it is located above the town of Fridingen, on the edge of the Upper Danube Nature Park nature reserve. Rocks and forests form an interesting natural backdrop that is not suppressed but strongly incorporated into the stage design. The small romantic gorge is a world of its own during the evening performance. Far away from the hustle and bustle and traffic noise, under rustling old trees, the singing of birds and the flying of bats are just as much a part of the play as the actors' performances on stage. The steep climb from the parking lots is quickly forgotten. With its 400 seats – and no roof – the stage is one of the few wildly romantic natural stages in Baden-Württemberg. Around 100 theater performers stage one play for adults and one play for children on the natural stage each year. Around 25 performances are planned between the end of June and the end of July. In addition, a play is performed in the association's own hall theater in winter. For over 60 years, the Steintäle open-air theater has been producing sophisticated theater that appeals to an ever-growing audience. The uniqueness of the Steintäle open-air theater is also reflected in the selection of plays performed to date: *Andorra, The Crucible, The Visit,* *Jedermann* and many other sophisticated plays have been performed and have found an appreciative audience. The children's plays, which have been performed by children and young people since 1977, delight not only young audiences every year. Founded in 1947, the Theater- und Kulturring (Theater and Culture Association) was originally dedicated entirely to indoor theater. However, when the association lost its indoor stage in the former Gasthaus Krone in 1960 and had no other options of its own, the idea of an open-air stage in the small, romantic rock gorge in Steintäle was born. The playing area was almost predetermined by the rocks and forest. The spectator stands were built on the steep scree slope opposite. The stage was inaugurated in 1963 on the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the town of Fridingen with Schiller's *Wilhelm Tell*. Over the years, additional small performance areas, the access road, and the necessary functional buildings were mostly constructed by the association itself. It was not until 1999 that water and sewage pipes were painstakingly laid through the rocky terrain by hand. In 1978, the association received the award for Exemplary Municipal Civic Action from Lothar Späth, then Minister President of the State of Baden-Württemberg. The association is a member of the [Association of German Amateur Theaters](http://www.bdat.info/) and the [Association of German Open-Air Theaters](http://www.freilichtbuehnen.de/).
