The fascination of Danube infiltration

The Naturbühne Steintäle with its 400 seats - without a roof - is one of the few wild and romantic natural stages in Baden-Württemberg. Every year, between the end of June and the end of July, around 100 theater actors perform an adult play and a children's play on the natural stage.
The ensemble of the open-air stage also puts on a play in its own indoor theater in winter.
A very special atmosphere characterizes the Naturbühne Steintäle.
It is nestled in a very narrow Albtrock valley in the Danube valley above the town of Fridingen, on the edge of the Upper Danube Nature Park nature reserve. Rocks and forest form an interesting natural backdrop, which is not suppressed but very much integrated into the stage design. The small romantic gorge is a world of its own in the evening performance. Far away from the hustle and bustle and traffic noise, under rustling old trees, the singing of the birds and the bats flying around are just as much a part of the play as the actors' actions on stage. The steep climb from the parking lots is quickly forgotten.
With its 400 seats - without a roof - the stage is one of the few wild and romantic natural stages in Baden-Württemberg. Around 100 theater actors perform one adult play and one children's play on the natural stage every year.Around 25 performances are planned from the end of June to the end of July. In addition, a play is performed in the club's own theater in winter. For over 60 years, the Naturbühne Steintäle has been producing high-quality theater work that appeals to an ever-growing audience.
The special nature of the Naturbühne Steintäle is also reflected in the selection of plays to date: Andorra, Witch Hunt, The Visit of the Old Lady, Everyman and many other challenging plays have been performed and have found an appreciative audience. The children's plays, which have been performed by children and young people since 1977, not only delight young audiences every year.
Founded in 1947, the Theater- und Kulturring was actually entirely dedicated to the theater. However, when the association lost its indoor stage in the former Gasthaus Krone in 1960 and had no facilities of its own, the idea of a natural stage in the small, romantic rocky gorge in Steintäle was born. The playing area was almost predetermined by the rocks and forest. The audience tiers were built into the steep scree slope opposite. The stage was inaugurated in 1963 on the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the town of Fridingen with Schiller's Wilhelm Tell.Over the years, other small playing areas, the access road and the necessary functional buildings were built, mostly by the company itself. It was not until 1999 that a water and sewage pipeline was painstakingly laid by hand through the rocky terrain.
In 1978, the association was presented with the Exemplary Municipal Civic Action award by the then Minister President of Baden-Württemberg, Lothar Späth.The association is a member of the Bund deutscher Amateurtheater and the Verband deutscher Freilichtbühnen.
