Welcome to Open-air museum Neuhausen ob Eck

In the Neuhausen ob Eck open-air museum, you can find out how people used to live in the rural regions of the Swabian Alb, the Black Forest and Lake Constance. The museum village with its 25 historic buildings brings the past to life in a special way and has something for everyone: history to touch, space to let off steam and craft demonstrations to marvel at.

Your journey back in time

Visit a total of 25 historical buildings, all of which are faithfully furnished, from the Swabian Alb, Black Forest and Lake Constance regions. The Neuhausen ob Eck Open-Air Museum is centrally located between these regions in the district of Tuttlingen, just a 30-minute drive northwest of Lake Constance.
From the church to the department store, from the school to the smithy - a small Alb village is grouped around the village fountain and it seems as if it has always been here in the Neuhausen ob Eck Open-Air Museum. A look inside the houses gives the impression that the inhabitants have just gone to work in the fields. Numerous animals live in the museum: the chickens cluck, the geese swim in the pond, goats, sheep, donkeys and Swabian-Hell pigs are out on the pasture or in the stable. In the afternoon, you can also meet the pig herders, who take their small herd to the pig pasture every day at 2 pm from mid-May.

Experience interesting facts in an entertaining way

Listen to the sound of metal hammering from the forge as the blacksmith shapes horseshoes or chimney pieces. On other days, a woman is at work at the spinning wheel in the parlor, the weaver in the weaver's house or the wainwright in his workshop, answering visitors' questions. There are daily demonstrations of the waterwheel-powered saw and mill on the imposing Black Forest farm.

Visit numerous events, action days, guided tours and courses on the topics of history, animals and crafts from past centuries. The classics are, of course, the Great Carters' Day in July and the traditional museum festival, the Kirbe in October (October 5 and 6, 2024). The Fairy Tale Days (August 1 to 4, 2024) also offer an opportunity to visit the museum during the summer vacations.
Families in particular benefit from the low admission prices: Because children up to and including the age of 10 have free admission. Visitors of all ages can rediscover history in an entertaining way and spend a great day at the museum! The adventure playground with cable car, mud pit and climbing frame is the perfect place to let off steam.

Food and shopping at the open-air museum

The museum shop is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11:30 am to 4:30 pm. Here you can buy sweets, ice cream, souvenirs and regional products. You can also get a snack, coffee and cake here. There are also two large brick-built, covered barbecue areas (reservation required) where you can enjoy a cozy meal. At weekends, you will find a food truck with hearty food in front of the sheepfold.

The Neuhausen ob Eck Open-Air Museum is an official information point of the UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb.
