Welcome to the Neuhausen ob Eck Open-Air Museum

In the Neuhausen ob Eck open-air museum, you can find out how people used to live in the rural regions of the Swabian Alb, the Black Forest and Lake Constance. The museum village with its 25 historical buildings brings the past to life in a special way and has something for everyone: history to touch, space to let off steam and craft demonstrations to amaze.

Your journey back in time

Visit a total of 25 historical buildings, all of which have been faithfully restored from the Swabian Alb, Black Forest and Lake Constance regions. The Neuhausen ob Eck open-air museum is centrally located between these regions in the district of Tuttlingen, just a 30-minute drive northwest of Lake Constance.
From the church to the department store, from the school to the smithy - a small Alb village is grouped around the village fountain and it seems as if it has always been here in the Neuhausen ob Eck open-air museum. A look inside the houses gives the impression that the inhabitants have just gone to work in the fields. Numerous animals populate the museum: the chickens cluck, the geese swim in the pond, goats, sheep, donkeys and Swabian-Hell pigs are out on the pasture or in the stable. In the afternoon, you can also meet the pig herdsmen, who take their small herd out to herd pigs every day at 2 pm from mid-May.

Experience interesting facts in an entertaining way

Listen to the sound of metal hammering from the forge as the blacksmith shapes horseshoes or chimney pieces. On other days, a woman is at work at the spinning wheel in the parlor, the weaver in the weaver's house or the wainwright in his workshop, answering visitors' questions. There are daily demonstrations of the waterwheel-powered saw and mill on the imposing Black Forest farm.

Visit numerous events, activity days, courses, film screenings and lectures on the topics of history, animals and crafts from past centuries. The classics are, of course, the Great Carters' Day in July, the Baden-Württemberg Folk Music Day on the first Sunday in September and the traditional museum festival, the Kirbe, in October. A colourful and varied children's holiday program or the Fairy Tale Day also offer a reason to visit the museum, especially during the summer vacations.
Families in particular benefit from the low admission prices: Children up to the age of 16 are admitted free of charge. Visitors of all ages can rediscover history in an entertaining way and spend a great day at the museum!

Culinary delights with a beer garden atmosphere and more

The Ochsen museum restaurant with its large beer garden invites you to stop for a bite to eat with delicious Swabian-rural dishes. There are also two large brick barbecue areas (reservation required) where you can enjoy a cozy meal. Children and adults who are young at heart can really let off steam in the play area!
