The fascination of Danube infiltration

Danube infiltration

Sinkhole I

Ziegelhütte, 78194 Immendingen

Welcome to Sinkhole I

A unique natural phenomenon - the Danube seepage in the Donaubergland: The Danube flows into two oceans. There are several seepage points near Immendingen. Here, a large part of the Danube water disappears into the ground in several places.

The first major sinking point of the Danube seepage is located in Immendingen, directly at the weir near the covered wooden bridge and close to the Donauuferpark II. Depending on the water level, individual larger sinkholes can be seen there. Up to 8 square meters of Danube water per second disappear into the Danube riverbed here.

The Danube seepage is an official geopoint of the UNESCO Global Geopark Swabian Alb.

What can you see at the special sinking points?

You have to look closely. The Danube water disappears in eddies. At the first main sinking point below the bridge, the scene has been completely restaged.
