Welcome to the Sinkholes Immendingen

A unique natural phenomenon - a river that flows into two seas

Cologne is on the Danube and Vienna is on the Krähenbach?

We all learned in school: "The Danube flows into the Black Sea" - but this does not apply to the entire Danube. Between Immendingen and Tuttlingen, a large proportion of the Danube's water seeps away

and (a lot of) water always flows underground to the source of the Aach in Hegau. From there, back on the surface, it flows into the Radolfzeller Aach as far as Lake Constance, from where it continues its long journey and, together with the water from the Rhine , reaches the North Sea.
If you like, Cologne, Bonn, Düsseldorf and many other cities are also on the Danube!

In summer, the riverbed is dry for weeks on end. You can hike through the Danube without getting your feet wet on the Donauversinkung premium trail.
But doesn't that also mean that in summer, Vienna is not on the Danube, but perhaps on the Krähenbach, the nearest tributary of the Danube near Möhringen?

Main sinking

Where can you clearly see and understand the Danube infiltration?

Along the main sinking point near Immendingen, there are large sinkholes and swallow holes on the embankment where the Danube water sinks in whirlpools. Here you can observe how the water disappears into the ground.
