Welcome to Kallenberg ruins

The Kallenberg castle ruins date back to the High Middle Ages and are located between Fridingen and Buchheim. Alongside the Falkenstein ruins near Beuron-Thiergarten, they are among the most significant ruins in the Danube Valley. Kallenberg Castle was probably built in the 12th century. It was first mentioned in 1225 in connection with the Lords of Kallenberg. It changed hands several times during the Middle Ages. The castle began to fall into disrepair in 1800. Since 1974, the ruins have been owned and maintained by the district of Tuttlingen. Parts of the masonry were recently secured and restored. The ruins are freely accessible. From the top, there is a good view over the Danube gorge to Bronnen Castle.
